How doth the little crocodile

from Lewis Carroll – How Doth the Little Crocodile on Rap Genius

Alice, the speaker of this poem, attempts to recite Isaac Watts' Against Idleness and Mischief, which begins, “How doth the little busy bee.” It is a moralistic poem which advises children in a kind way to keep working hard instead of slacking off.

Alice mangles the lyrics, though, and she changes the “busy bee” to a “little crocodile”, altering the message and tone of the poem entirely.
